Zeeland is a province on the southwestern part of the Netherlands. Its name means "sea land". Zeeland is in a river delta. Much of the land here was reclaimed from the sea in age past. A large area of Zeeland is below sea level. The country of
New Zealand was named after it.
Zeeland covers 1,788 square kilometers of land and 1,146 square kilometers of water. It has a population of only 380,000 people. The area is a beach destination. During the summer months, it receives a high number of tourists, mainly Germans, which swell the local population by two to four times.
