Silchar (Assamese: শিলচর) is the second largest city in Assam, India. It serves as the headquarters of Cachar district and is the gateway to the state of Mizoram. The city has a population of 230,000 people (2012 estimate).
Silchar is on the southern part of Assam, on the banks of the Barak River. The city has a number of primary industry such as papermaking and agricultural products.
