Irrawaddy Road, George Town, PenangIrrawaddy Road, George Town, Penang (22 December 2012)

Jalan Irrawaddi, formerly called Irrawaddy Road, is a minor road in George Town, Penang. It is located parallel to two major roads, Burmah Road and Northam Road. Irrawaddy Road is not linked directly to either of these two roads. Instead it connects with many of the off shoots of Burmah Road such as Services Road, Chow Thye Road, Tavoy Road, Phuah Hin Leong Road and Arratoon Road. Of these, only Arratoon Road links to Northam Road.

As with a number of roads in this area, the name of Irrawaddy Road is inspired by a locality in Myanmar, in this case the Ayeyarwady River, formerly known as the Irrawaddy River. This is partly due to the existence of Thai and Burmese villages in the area from the early part of the 19th century until the 20th century.
