Kuan Im Teng Hai Beng Lor Mee is a popular Hainan lor mee stall in George Town, Penang. I call it the "Kuan Im Teng Hai Beng Lor Mee" because it is located within Kedai Kopi Hai Beng, the coffee shop across Stewart Lane from Kuan Im Teng, the Goddess of Mercy Temple.

I heard that this lor mee stall is one of the best in Penang. However, I must have been very slow in coming here, because by the time I finally had a chance to try it for the first time, I found that the taste was not that spectacular. The stall calls itself "Hainan Lor Mee", and claims to have been operating since 1957. It is new to me that Lor Mee is Hainanese. I have known it to be sold by the Hokkiens and the Hakkas as well.

As it turned out, the Kuan Im Teng Hai Beng Lor Mee fell much below my expectation. Although we ordered the large bowl, the portion was quite small. I remember being hungry again not long thereafter. As for the taste, I was not too impressed either. I remember asking myself, what's the big deal with this lor mee.

Later on, I found out from others on Facebook that the Kuan Im Teng Hai Beng Lor Mee stall has since changed ownership, and since then, the quality has dropped. Oh well.
