The Lighthouse Drop-In Centre (2 July 2014)
The Lighthouse Drop-In Centre (GPS: 5.42145, 100.33335) is a soup kitchen run by the Catholic church of Penang. Managed by volunteers, the centre provides free meals as well as basic amenities such as a place to bathe and seek medical assistance. The centre is open Mondays to Fridays from 3:00 pm to 7:00 pm.
The Lighthouse helps the people who drop in at the centre whom it refers to as its "clients", by providing them work opportunities. This includes simple duties such as grass cutting, house moving and graveyard maintenance. In so doing, the clients are able to earn some income as well as make themselves useful.
