Lovers' Isle, Batu Ferringhi, PenangLovers' Isle, Batu Ferringhi, Penang (2 March 2022)

Lovers' Isle is a rocky outcrop at Batu Ferringhi, on the north coast of Penang Island. Its original Malay name is Ujong Batu. Lovers' Isle is located along the famous tourist belt of Batu Ferringhi. Interestingly, it is this little outcrop that gave the name Batu Ferringhi to the whole area. For Lovers' Isle is Batu Ferringhi!

The little isle is the landmark for seafarers of old to stopover for a fresh supply of water from the nearby river. The local Malays called these seafarers ferringi, an Indian term to mean Europeans, especially Indian-born Portuguese. So that was how this little rock became Batu Ferringhi, although nowadays it is known locally as "Lovers' Isle".
