Merican Road, George Town, Penang (15 December 2008)

Merican Road, otherwise known as Jalan Merican, is a Y-shaped road in George Town. It has two ends opening to Pahang Road and one to Dunlop Road. Merican Road is in one of the early residential neighbourhoods developed in the early part of the 20th century. Many of the houses here are in the early Art Deco style. If I'm mistaken, I believe this road was named after the late 19th century Malay trader, M.Z. Merican.

Getting there

While Merican Road is not served with a bus route, Rapid Penang Bus 11, 201, 202, 203, 204, 206, 301, 302 and 502 all pass through Dato Keramat Road near it. From Dato Keramat Road, alight at bus stop in front of Dato Keramat Police Station. Then walk down Pahang Road and turn left into Merican Road.
