Prangin Road Ghaut (Malay: Gat Jalan Prangin; Penang Hokkien: Ang3 Teng3 Kark3 ) is an extension of Prangin Road in George Town. It was created following the land reclamation that was carried out between 1880 and 1904, which created the Weld Quay waterfront area.

Prangin Road Ghaut ran alongside the Prangin Canal. It was a working class neighbourhood lined with wholesalers providing support trades to the Sia Boey Market. Many of the townhouses here are now used for residential purposes.

Today it connects Prangin Road (renamed Jalan Dr Lim Chwee Leong after the doctor who had his dispensary, Soo Beng Dispensary, along the road) to Weld Quay and the Chong Eu Expressway, named after the second Chief Minister of Penang and son of Dr Lim Chwee Leong.

In Other Words ...

Prangin Road Ghaut is called Ang3 Teng3 Kark3 in Hokkien, meaning "red lantern corner". This is due to a red beacon that was once located out in the sea.
