Putu Piring is an Indian-style steamed rice cake with palm sugar pilling. It can be found in a few stalls in Penang, though in comparison, it is much harder to find nowadays compared to putu mayong.

Putu piring also known simply as puttu in southern India, and is even available in the Philippines, where it is known as puto1. The rice cakes have a filling of gula melaka or palm sugar which gives it visible dark patches in the middle. When sold by Indian hawkers, the putu piring is provided with some grated coconut and coarse sugar.
