Battery Road, Singapore

Battery Road is a minor road in downtown Singapore. It links Chulia Street on one end with Collyer Quay and Fullerton Road on the other. It is one of the earliest roads south of the Singapore River.

Battery Road was, of course, not named after dry cell batteries, or those you use in your car, but rather to the Fort Fullerton, the defence fortress or battery guarding the entrance to Singapore River. The fort is located on the site presently occupied by The Fullerton Hotel. During the 19th century, Battery Road links Fort Fullerton to Commercial Square, which is today Raffles Place.

How to reach Battery Road

Take the North-South Line or the East-West Line of the Singapore MRT to the Raffles Place MRT Station.
