Bukit Batok MRT Station (GPS: 1.34879, 103.74938; NS2) is an elevated Mass Rapid Transit station on the North–South Line (NSL) in Singapore, located at the heart of the Bukit Batok New Town. Serving as a commuter hub and local landmark, it links the town centre with regional rail and bus networks.

The station is located at 10 Bukit Batok Central, Singapore 659958, in the town centre of Bukit Batok New Town. 1 It lies within the Bukit Batok Planning Area in Singapore’s West Region, and falls under Postal District 23, which covers the Bukit Batok and surrounding HDB residential estates. 1

Operational History

Bukit Batok MRT Station opened on 10 March 1990 as part of the Branch Line between Jurong East MRT Station and Choa Chu Kang MRT Station. 2 When the NSL’s Woodlands Extension was completed in 1996 the station became part of the extended North–South Line. 2

Line & Connections

The station is served by the North–South Line (Station code NS2). 3 Travelling on the NSL: the preceding station toward the city (Marina South Pier direction) is Jurong East (NS1) and the following station toward the north is Bukit Gombak (NS3). 3

Public Transport & Neighbourhood Amenities

Directly connected to the Bukit Batok Bus Interchange, the station offers seamless transfers to numerous bus services serving the western region of Singapore and local feeder routes. 4

Just a short walk from the station is West Mall, a neighbourhood shopping mall which also houses the Bukit Batok Public Library. 5 The area around the station features community amenities including the CSC @ Bukit Batok, Bukit Batok Community Library, and the library branch within West Mall. 5

Fun Fact

The design of Bukit Batok Station includes an inverted, high-pitched V-shaped roof — characteristic of many early elevated MRT stations — which was intentionally styled to echo the nearby Housing & Development Board (HDB) blocks in the estate. 2

Also, the station has witnessed significant evolution: starting as part of the Branch Line, its station code changed from “B1” to NS2 after system-wide renumbering in 2001. 2
