Dhoby Ghaut MRT Station, Singapore (27 July 2017)


Dhoby Ghaut MRT Station (GPS: 1.29859, 103.84599; NS24/NE6/CC1) is a major station in the Singapore MRT system. It is located at the eastern end of Orchard Road. The Dhoby Ghaut MRT Station opened on 12 December 1987 to serve the North-South Line between the Somerset MRT Station and City Hall MRT Station.

The Dhoby Ghaut MRT Station became an interchange on 20 June 2003 when the North East Line began operations through it, between Clarke Quay MRT Station and Little India MRT Station. On 17 April 2010 it became the first MRT station to serve three different lines when the newly operational Circle Line also pass through it, towards the Bras Basah MRT Station.

The Dhoby Ghaut Station is presently the biggest station in the Singapore MRT system. It is one of two stations where travellators are installed to facilitate rapid transit between lines. The station reaches a depth of 28 meters below ground level, making it the second deepest station after the Bras Basah MRT Station.

The Dhoby Ghaut Station is located directly beneath The Atrium @ Orchard, a two-block complex whose tenants include Temasek Holdings, MTV Southeast Asia and HSBC. among the sights nearby include the historic House of Tan Yeok Nee and the Orchard Road Presbyterian Church.
