Geylang River, Singapore (28 July 2017)


Geylang River is one of the 32 rivers in Singapore. The name is believed to be derived from the Malay word "kilang", which means factory or mill. A tributary of the Kallang River, the Geylang River flows into the Kallang Basin. Geylang River starts at Ubi, where it is no larger than a drain, and begins its journey southwards, gradually widening as it goes along. By the time it crosses Geylang Road near City Plaza, the river has widened substantially. It makes a couple of bends before ending its course at the Kallang Basin near the Singapore Indoor Stadium.

Today the areas on both sides of the Geylang River, over a stretch of 850 meters, have been turned into greens and parks for the recreational use of the locals.
