The Majestic, Singapore

The Majestic is a historic building in the Singapore Chinatown. It is located along Eu Tong Sen Street between People's Park Complex and Yue Hwa Building.

The Majestic originally housed the Majestic Theatre, which was built by the tin and rubber magnate Eu Tong Sen, who founded the Eu Yan Sang Medical Hall. It was designed by the architectural firm of Swan and Maclaren, which also designed the Yue Hwa Building next door. The Majestic Theatre was completed in 1928, and was originally called the Tien Yien Moh Toi Theatre.

The Majestic Theatre was purchased by Dato Loke Wan Tho of Cathay Organisation from the Eu family in 1956. It continued to operate as a theatre until 1998. It served as a shopping centre for a few years in the early 2000's.

Getting there
