New World Park (9 December 2012)
New World Park (GPS: 5.42136, 100.32717) is a modern food centre in
George Town, Penang. It is bordered by
Burmah Road,
Swatow Lane and Hutton Lane. It takes its name after an amusement park called New World Park, that was located there in the 1930's. Similarly, the Hokkien name of the park,
Sin Sei Kai, is retained for the food court.
The New World Park food centre was launched in January 2008. It comprises two section. The portion nearest to Burmah Road is occupied by bistros, cafes and upmarket eateries, while the portion nearer to
Hutton Lane is a food court where street fare is sold in the comfort of a clean environment. This food court is the successor to the food stalls along
Swatow Lane, which moved into New World Park when it was completed.

There is a wide range of Penang street food available at the New World Park Food Court, among them
char koay teow,
mee goreng,
mee rebus,
pasembur,
koey teow thng, lam mee,
popiah, pi tee, pancake,
curry mee,
bakchang,
laksa,
Hokkien mee, and much more. Also available is a wide range beverages as well as local desserts such as
cendol and ice kacang.

Free Malaysia Today reports that the famous
Bangkok Lane Mee Goreng will relocate to New World Park from 1 September 2021.
