The Marina East Planning Area (Simplified Chinese: 滨海南, Traditional Chinese: 濱海南, Pinyin: Bīn Hǎi Nán, Malay: Marina East, Tamil: மரினா ஈஸ்ட்) is a small planning area in the Central Region of Singapore. Covering just 1.82 square kilometres, it is one of the least urbanised planning areas, with no permanent residential population1. Instead, Marina East is known for its coastal parks, golf courses, and its role as part of Singapore’s waterfront green network. It lies within Postal District 15.
Marina East is located on land reclaimed from the sea. The reclamation works, completed in the 1970s and 1980s, were part of Singapore’s long-term plan to extend usable land along the southern coastline. Initially intended for mixed-use development, Marina East has remained largely recreational, serving as a green and leisure space on the eastern fringe of the city. Unlike its counterpart Marine Parade, Marina East does not have HDB estates or large residential neighbourhoods.
“Marina East” is pronounced Mah-ree-nah Eest, with the International Phonetic Alphabet (IPA) transcription /məˈriː.nə iːst/.
As of now, this planning area has not been split into subzones, other than the Marina East subzone. However, do not confuse it with the Marina East Subzone which is part of Marine Parade Planning Area.
Marina East is bounded by the Marina Channel to the west, the Singapore Strait to the south, and East Coast Parkway (ECP) to the north and east. It sits between Marina South and Marine Parade, forming part of the continuous parkland that stretches into East Coast Park.
Marina East is connected by major roads including East Coast Parkway (ECP) and Changi Road extensions. While there are currently no MRT stations within Marina East itself, nearby access points include Mountbatten and Stadium stations on the Circle Line, as well as upcoming stations on the Thomson-East Coast Line serving the adjacent Marine Parade area.
Marina East has no residential housing estates and is not zoned for housing. Property seekers looking for homes near the area typically turn to Marine Parade or Geylang, where HDB flats, condominiums, and landed houses are available. Therefore, there is no property price data specific to Marina East2.
Though small, Marina East offers several recreational and leisure amenities. Notable landmarks include:
Marina East is not a residential community but serves as a leisure hub for people across Singapore. Families visit on weekends for cycling and kite-flying, while golfers enjoy its premier course. Its location between Marina Bay and East Coast Park ensures a steady stream of visitors seeking outdoor recreation.
Marina Bay Golf Course in Marina East is the only 18-hole golf course in Singapore open to the public, providing city skyline views alongside a links-style design3.
