The Marine Parade Planning Area (Simplified Chinese: 马林百列, Traditional Chinese: 馬林百列, Pinyin: Mǎlín Bǎiliè, Malay: Marine Parade, Tamil: மெரைன் பாரேடு) is a residential and recreational district in the Central Region of Singapore. Covering about 6.12 square kilometres, it has a population of roughly 46,390 residents as of 20201. Located along the southeastern coast, Marine Parade is well known for its beachfront lifestyle, extensive recreational facilities, and vibrant housing estates. It falls within Postal District 15, one of Singapore’s prime residential zones.
The area now known as Marine Parade was created through large-scale land reclamation in the 1960s and 1970s, extending the coastline outwards from the original Katong shoreline. It was one of Singapore’s earliest reclaimed housing estates, planned by the Housing & Development Board (HDB) as a modern residential community. Since its development, Marine Parade has become a sought-after address, combining waterfront living with convenient access to city amenities. Its reclamation also enabled the creation of East Coast Park, one of the nation’s most popular leisure destinations.
The name “Marine Parade” reflects its coastal setting and earlier promenade-like layout. It is pronounced Mah-reen Pah-rayd, with the International Phonetic Alphabet (IPA) transcription /məˈriːn pəˈreɪd/.
Marine Parade is bordered by the Kallang Planning Area to the northwest, Geylang Planning Area to the north, Bedok Planning Area to the east, and the Singapore Strait to the south. Its reclaimed coastal land runs alongside the East Coast Parkway, with East Coast Park forming its southern edge. This strategic location makes it both a residential hub and a recreational gateway to the beach and parklands.
Marine Parade is served by major roads such as East Coast Road, Changi Road, and Jalan Eunos, as well as the East Coast Parkway (ECP). Public transport connectivity has been enhanced with the new Thomson-East Coast Line, which includes Marine Parade MRT Station. This provides direct rail links to the city and eastern parts of Singapore. Bus services also connect the area to Downtown Core and nearby planning areas.
Marine Parade is a desirable residential district, popular among both locals and expatriates. It offers a mix of public housing flats, private condominiums, and landed homes. As of 2025, resale HDB flats in Marine Parade typically range from SGD 650,000 to over SGD 950,000, depending on size and location2. Condominium units average around SGD 1,800–2,300 per square foot, with a 1,200 sq ft (111.5 sq m) unit priced between SGD 2.2 million and SGD 2.7 million. Rental rates for similar-sized condos fall in the range of SGD 4,500–6,000 per month. Compared to central prime districts, Marine Parade offers slightly more affordable coastal living with excellent recreational amenities.
Marine Parade is home to several well-known landmarks and lifestyle destinations:
Marine Parade is a lively and family-friendly community. Its proximity to the sea and East Coast Park makes it especially attractive to those who enjoy outdoor activities. The neighbourhood is also rich in dining choices, ranging from local hawker fare to international cuisines. Its blend of modern conveniences and traditional Katong charm has made it one of the most distinctive areas in Singapore.
Marine Parade was the first estate in Singapore where HDB flats were built entirely on reclaimed land3. This pioneering project set the stage for future coastal reclamation efforts across the island.
